You found your home!! Contracts signed and closing date set. Now its time to move
First time and repeat Buyers can be surprised by the expenses associated with moving, everything from packing materials, movers, truck rental as well as deposits for turning on the utilities and the new home. Some of these surprises you can eliminate / reduce by investigating moving companies, estimating moving cost and making a moving checklist ( in realtor/home-buying/getting-started/home-buyers-toolkit there is an example of a 8 week prior moving checklist)
When selecting a moving company, ask friends/family for recommendations. Call at least 2 companies for estimates and check their references . Before making your decision confirm the company is insured and provides coverage for your belongings .
Start Packing Early
Over time , most of accumulate lots of things. It might be beneficial to sort some of your possessions , keep, sale, donate. Instead of paying a mover to pack, you can save money by packing yourself. Few important packing tips ( more are in the booklet .realtor/home-buying/getting-started/home-buyers-toolkit ).
Begin packing as early as possible, when packing go room by room, label all boxes.
You may also consider packing a suitcase with a few days of clothes and personal items you will need just to have handy
